The Month of Steam
When: The month of February Where: The Florida Railroad Museum, 12210 83rd Street East, Parrish Why: The month of February brings lots of steam engine action to the Railroad Museum in Parrish. Train lovers will enjoy riding Flagg Coal #75, a visiting steam-powered engine. If your lucky, you might be picked to be a Steam Engineer for 15 minutes and actually operate the throttle on this train! Steam train departs at 10, 12, 2 and 4 pm. Check out their “Hobo Campfire Cookout” on February 20th at 5pm this month too.

Wee-time at Weedon: “Planting a Rainbow”

Thursday, February 25th, 10:30-11:15am Where: Weedon Island Preserve Why: This storytime introduces children to the wonders of the natural world. “Planting a Rainbow” focuses on a story by Lois Ehlert. This story is about the beauty of the world's different flowers. Also included in the storytime is a craft or game. Best for children ages 3-5. Free, but registration is required. Book Time at Brooker Creek: “A New Home for an Old Friend: Responsible Aquarium Stewardship”

Perfect for younger kids, children can set up a color mixing lab, grow crystals and capture 24 different colors in a test tube. Then, participate in a Make-it Take-it Project where kids use the periodic table to create 3D molecule models using Crayola Model Magic. Free event; while supplies last. Perfect for ages 4+.

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts

Boot Camp for New Dads

2010 USF Children's Festival

Saturday, March 6th, 11am-3pm Where: USF campus Why: This free festival will take place on the USF campus near the college of education. It will include a variety of different learning activities, arranged by clubs, organizations and classes from the School of Education. Bring the kids for an afternoon of fun while learning!

Tampa Bay Area Family Expo

Saturday, March 13th, 10am-8pm, Sunday, March 14th, 11-6pm Where: The Florida State Fairgrounds Why: This day of celebrating family will include community resources for families and children, fun inflatable bouncers, face painting, interactive kids activities provided by MOSI, The Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo and more! The first 500 kids each day receive a goodie bag provided by IKEA! Door prizes and raffles too. Admission is $5.00 (kids under 2 free); cash only.

Picnic in the Park

Sunday, March 14th, 11:30-3:30 Where: Plant Park, UT campus Why: This springtime tradition combines old fashioned pleasures—bring your own picnic basket, games like horeshoes and hoops and sticks—and modern day entertainment with live theater and a concert by the UT band. There are even strolling musicians and free Blue Bell ice cream! Enjoy the spring weather and plan to attend this free annual event.

Infant and Child CPR

Thursday, March 18th, 6-9pm Where: St. Joseph's Women's Pavilion, 4th floor classrooms Why: Learn how to perform CPR and choking rescue techniques to American Heart Association Guidelines. FossilFest

Additionally, artifacts from Florida's prehistoric people, gems, minerals, and shells will be displayed. Admission is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. Special educational opportunities offered for kids as well.
